An express licence is available to provide titanium companies with low barriers to licencing the technology. Bench scale testing has been performed to investigate the feasibility of the process and the process is now ready to be scaled up.

TiPro

The novel process consists of two major parts:

  1. Production of titanium rich intermetallic or alloy powder by solid liquid separation.
  2. Further reduction of the titanium intermetallic or alloy powder by CaH2 or Ca vapour.

Applications

Production of titanium powders and other intermetallic powders such as iron and nickel aluminides.

USPs

  • Low cost raw materials to make the titanium rich intermetallic or alloy powders directly.
  • Separation process is more effective and less expensive due to self-propogating exothermic reactions to separate the titanium rich and ceramic phases.
  • Residual Al2O3 in powder eliminated driving oxygen content in titanium rich powder to below 0.2wt%.
  • Easier leaching of reaction by-products CaO and CaH2.
  • Can produce more complex titanium based powders than Ti-Al as well as other metal based intermetallic and alloy powders.
