Tenby Powell | Chairman of Directors
Tenby was educated at the University of Waikato (awarded Distinguished Alumnus in 2010) and Harvard Business School. He has held senior management positions in Fletcher Challenge and Skellerup Group, prior to forming Hunter Powell Investment Partners, a major shareholder in the New Zealand Rental Group. Tenby stepped down as CEO of the Group in February 2009 after growing the business from 14 branches, when purchased in 2003, to 86 business units some six years later. Tenby is also Chairman of Envoy 360 Ltd, Director of Antarctica New Zealand (a crown entity), and Director & Trustee for the Auckland Rescue Helicopter Trust (Westpac Rescue Helicopter).
Professor Bruce Clarkson
Professor Bruce Clarkson is Dean of Science and Engineering at the University of Waikato where he is also Director of the Environmental Research Institute. He is an internationally-recognised authority on ecological restoration, currently leads a major research programme on urban biodiversity restoration, and was awarded New Zealand's premier conservation award, the Loder Cup, in 2006. Professor Clarkson previously worked for the Crown Research Institute, Landcare Research.
Mr James MacGillivray
James MacGillivray is a Partner in the dispute resolution department of Hamilton law firm, Tompkins Wake. He specialises in the resolution of commercial disputes. Prior to joining Tompkins Wake, James was a Senior Associate in the London office of leading international firm Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, before which he practiced at Bell Gully in Auckland. James has assisted as a part-time lecturer at Waikato Law School.
Professor Alister Jones
Alister Jones is a Research Professor and the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, University of Waikato. His core responsibility is to provide leadership to the University around the development of academic, research, regional and international initiatives. He is also responsible for the University‘s engagement in the Bay of Plenty region.
Professor Jones is currently a Director for a number of companies, including Cognition Education Limited, WaikatoLink and Priority One. Alister is Managing Director of the Australasian Science Education Research Association Limited and has served on a number of national and international advisory groups and boards. He is Director of the New Zealand Science Learning Hubs and co-chairs an APEC working group on science and mathematics education.
Prior to becoming Deputy Vice-Chancellor he was Dean of the Faculty Education and a past Director of both the Wilf Malcolm Institute of Educational Research and the Centre for Science and Technology Education Research at the University of Waikato. He holds visiting professorships at Kings College London, Kasetsart University and the Institute of Education Hong Kong.
